Company Profile
Although the Furniture House Group was only established in 1998 the original company was formed 28 years ago and was known within the industry simply as the A.B.C. Buying Group. The parent company was Alliance Buying Co Ltd and was formed to provide catalogue advertising on a cooperative basis for independent retailers throughout Victoria , South Australia and Tasmania .
Some nineteen years ago the group developed a relationship with other groups in N.S.W. and Queensland as well as in New Zealand . The group changed its trading name to Homeflair and had members in both the furniture and carpet industries. The relationship between these groups developed and some eight years ago all these groups started a new company, which was registered as Court Stores Australasia Pty Ltd. This new company controls the trading names of both Furniture Court and Carpet Court .
During 1997 it became apparent that the two industries were becoming very separate in the way they functioned and that the future rested in the divisions going their separate ways. This was instigated by several of the stronger members of the Furniture Court division who felt that Furniture Court needed to be run by experts in the furniture industry for furniture retailers.
On the 1 st of May 1998 a new company was formed and registered as the “Furniture House Group Pty Ltd”. On Friday October 9 th 1998 the members accepted the name, logo and colour scheme of “Furniture House Group”
Currently the Group has six Directors Mr David Mitchell, Mr Ian Brewer, Mr Tony Allen, Mr John Masters, Mr Hank Langes and Mr Garry Stephens. As directors of the group they oversee and work closely with the management to ensure that membership is being properly represented.
The groups aim is to combine independent furniture retailers together on a cooperative buying, advertising, marketing and corporate identity basis. By taking this approach we believe that the group has far greater versatility in its approach to marketing and far greater buying power.
Our current membership is 44 stores covering Victoria , South Australia , Tasmania and now in Queensland . These are primarily country stores and it is our aim to increase these dramatically. Mr Anthony Pullan is our General Manager and is supported by his wife Mrs Christine Pullan who along with Sharon Keay and Kristine Papaluca handle Office Administration.
