About the Furniture House Group
Although the Furniture House Group was only established in 1998 the original company was formed over 30 years ago and was known within the industry simply as the A.B.C. Buying Group. The parent company was Alliance Buying Co Ltd and was formed to provide catalogue advertising on a cooperative basis for independent retailers throughout Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
After this period the group developed a relationship with other groups in N.S.W. and Queensland as well as in New Zealand. The group changed its trading name to Homeflair and had members in both the furniture and carpet industries. The relationship between these groups developed and all these groups started a new company, which was registered as Court Stores Australasia Pty Ltd. This new company controls the trading names of both Furniture Court and Carpet Court.
During 1997 it became apparent that the two industries were becoming very separate in the way they functioned and that the future rested in the divisions going their separate ways. This was instigated by several of the stronger members of the Furniture Court division who felt that Furniture Court needed to be run by experts in the furniture industry for furniture retailers.
On the 1st of May 1998 a new company was formed and registered as the “Furniture House Group Pty Ltd”. On Friday October 9th 1998 the members accepted the name, logo and colour scheme of “Furniture House Group”
Currently the Group is run by a management team and a Board of Directors elected by the current Members. As directors of the group they oversee and work closely with the management to ensure that membership is being properly represented.
The groups aim is to assist our independent furniture retailers with buying, advertising, marketing and corporate identity, which we believe gives our Membership a far greater opportunity to become competitive retailers.
Our current membership covers Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and now in Queensland and Northern Territory all primarily country stores and we are still growing.
